anden monster

We woke up yesterday to the above mess (we make sure everything is cleaned up and put away each night).  Apparently, Anden had decided to get a sticker after using the potty.  Once in the sticker drawer, he saw a bag of toys that included a deflated beach ball.  This led him to the tool drawer in the kitchen to get out a pump (to try to inflate the ball).  After opening several bags to find the pump, he found two utility knives (I know--we aren't very smart).  He actually managed to open them BOTH and then decided he wanted to get out his scissors from our "project" (craft) cabinet.  Opening the cabinet led to getting out, not only scissors, but glue sticks, glitter, pipe cleaners, paint (once again, not very smart), you name it!  Most of this was carried into the family room (he'd stayed in the kitchen up to this point) where he cut open the bags of glitter while on the couch, tried desperately to open the paints (thank heavens the safety seals were still on them), and decided he wanted to watch a DVD.  He just recently learned how to turn the tv on and off, but he figured he'd also use the DVD player.  So, he opened the drawer of kid DVDs and pulled out a bunch of them...he couldn't get the DVD tray to open, but did manage to turn it on.

My guess is that this was all done within less than 20 minutes.  We didn't hear a peep from him even though we'd been up with Finley about half an hour earlier.  Raegan found him in the family room and came back in to get me.  Nothing good can ever be expected from the statement, "Come see what your son has been doing!"  My response from bed was: "What did he do?  Tell me now."  When Raegan said:  "No, just come look!" I knew that I was going to be one unhappy Momma.

Last night we jimmy-rigged (is that a word?) a safety gate to keep him restricted to the bedroom half of the house.  Amazingly, it worked.  I'm not holding my breath, though.  This was a first for him and I'm positive it won't be the last time he goes exploring in the wee hours of the morning.

At least he is using the potty regularly now.  Okay, seriously, stop laughing!

Oh, girl...at least those scissors and knives didn't do any damage (to him or your furniture)!

Yea for gates!!! I wish ours still worked...

Something my own Mother told me frequently--just wait until you grow up and have kids of your own....

I think he's got Raegan's sense of wonder and the opposite (dis?)organizations skills from his momma. Good luck! You guys are outnumbered and playing zone defense and they're all so young!

Wow... he was busy. He sounds like lots of fun (seriously - no sarcasm!)

It's Connie and I just had to check in when I started finding your blogs. And in case you don't remember the name (it's entirely possible) - Maybe your Dad has told you about your cousin who sang Ol' MacDonald on a cross-country trip :)
